Prior Lake, Minnesota - The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community today announces a grant of $10,000 for construction of an outdoor swimming pool facility in the town of Jordan, Minnesota.

"The volunteer committee of parents of school-aged children in the greater Jordan community are working hard to make this a reality, and we wanted to support that. It's important to have a safe, fun place for youth and their families to relax together," said SMSC Tribal Administrator Bill Rudnicki.

Jordan Aquatic Community Center Committee Chair Gene Sieve wrote in a letter to the SMSC, "Our motivation stems from our desire to create a community-centered facility that supports recreation suitable for all ages: infant to seniors. Currently, there is nothing offered in our community which would be a comparable summer recreation option. We have met with the City of Jordan officials to evaluate the feasibility and options for a pool facility. They have expressed a willingness to work with our committee and may ultimately participate in the process." The hope is for the city to offer a future park parcel as a location for the facility.

"The Mdewakanton Sioux has been a very gracious member of our community, showing consistent support for our schools and similar entities. We are extremely appreciative of your ongoing support to our community," he continued. The town of Jordan is located near the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community in rural Scott County, Minnesota.
