Prior Lake, MN - The Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community announces several classes starting in January 2009 for Emergency Medical Services. The classes are offered by the Mdewakanton Emergency Services department. Classes are open to the public and will be held in the new training room in Fire Station 10 across from Mystic Lake Casino on the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community reservation in Prior Lake.

The EMT Initial Course will run January 5 through May 6, 2009, on Monday and Wednesday and evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. The cost for this class is $695 plus $75 for the textbook. This class is open to individuals ages 18 and older.

A First Responder Initial Course will run January 6, 2009, through January 29, 2009, on Tuesday and Thursday evenings from 6:00 p.m. to 10:00 p.m. as well as on Saturday, January 24, 2008, from 8:00 a.m. - 5:00 p.m. The cost for the class is $275.00 + $75.00 for the textbook. This class is open to individuals ages 17 and older.

A First Aid/CPR Initial class will be offered the third Saturday of each month from 8:00 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. at a cost of $53. Those who successfully complete the class will receive a certified CPR/First Aid card.

Mdewakanton Emergency Services also provides customized training for police and fire departments, for example EMT, First Responder, Firefighter 1, Firefighter 2, and CPR training for lay persons and health professionals. Other Continuing Education Classes are also available.
