Save on E85, learn more about renewable fuels, Friday, December 19, 2008

Prior Lake, MN - As the first tribe in the state of Minnesota to offer E85 for sale, the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community, along with the American Lung Association and the Minnesota Corn Growers Association present E85 Day at the Shakopee Dakota Convenience Stores. The events will be held on Friday, December 19, 2008, at SDCS #1 from 10:00 a.m. to 1:00 p.m.; and at SDCS #2 from 2:00 p.m. to 5:00 p.m.

Customers can save 60 cents per gallon on E85 (up to 25 gallons.) Representatives from the American Lunch Association and the Minnesota Corn Growers Association will even do the work by filling gas tanks and washing windshields. As a special thank you gift with any E85 purchase, a Free Silver Car Wash and a Free Hot Dog will be given away. E85 vehicles will also be on display. E85 is an alternative motor fuel blend which is 85 percent ethanol and 15 percent gasoline. Remarkable for its superior performance characteristics, ethanol burns cleaner than gasoline and is a completely renewable, domestic, environmentally friendly fuel that enhances the nation's economy and energy independence.

Thirty-nine different models of vehicles made by Ford, General Motors, Daimler Chrysler, Mercedes Benz, Nissan, and Toyota use E85 fuel. These vehicles are known as Flex Fuel Vehicles. Of the roughly 250 million cars, trucks, SUVs, and minivans on America's roads, about six million are capable of burning E85 ethanol.

Chairman Stanley Crooks commented on the event, "We know that as oil prices and gasoline prices fluctuate, more and more people are driving flexible fuel vehicles. As the first tribe in the state to offer E85, we are happy to contribute to a cleaner environment by offering this renewable fuel as part of the product mix at our stores."
