SMSC Announces Dates for Annual Wacipi: August 16, 17, and 18, 2013

Shakopee, Minnesota – Each August hundreds of dancers and singers from across the country gather at the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community annual Wacipi (Pow Wow).  This year the event will be held Friday through Sunday, August 16, 17, and 18, 2013. The Wacipi will be held at the Wacipi Grounds on the SMSC reservation, on Dakotah Parkway, just south of County Road 42 between County Road 83 and County Road 17. The annual event is open to the public.

Enrollment For Playworks Summer Camp Now Open

Prior Lake, Minnesota – Playworks, a one-of-a-kind, world-class education and childcare facility for area children has opened enrollment for their summer camp, a one-of-a-kind recreational day camp for children. As always, Playworks Summer Camp is open to the public for children entering first through sixth grade. Campers are divided into three groups. Early Explorers are 1st and 2nd graders. Explorers are 3rd and 4th graders. Advanced Explorers are 5th and 6th graders.

Shakopee Mdewakanton Award $186,000 in Social Service Grants

Prior Lake, Minnesota – Being a good neighbor is important to the Shakopee Mdewakanton Sioux Community.  Providing grants to organizations which provide social services for people in need is one way the SMSC honors this traditional Dakota value. The SMSC announces $186,000 in grants to nine social service organizations.
